National Volunteer Week (which runs from 14-20 May) is an opportunity to acknowledge more than 60 volunteers at Perth Airport who assist people in the terminals and provide a positive first and last impression of Western Australia.
Perth Airport’s volunteer program, known as the ‘Gold Coats’ for the bright yellow jackets they wear, recently expanded from 40 to 65 after an expression of interest was circulated and, for the first time, Gold Coats are now based at the Domestic Terminal 3, in addition to the International Terminal.
Perth Airport Chief Executive Officer Brad Geatches said volunteers at Perth Airport played an important role, often being the first and last point of contact for visitors to Western Australia.
“Our volunteers give up their spare time to help people in our terminals and provide a warm and welcoming environment for travellers,” Mr Geatches said.
“They answer people’s questions, point people in the right direction and ensure that everyone visiting our terminals has a positive experience.
“It takes a very special person to volunteer, and we are grateful for the generosity of our volunteers, many of whom have volunteered for many years and are a valuable asset to the airport.”
Mr Geatches said Perth Airport worked hard to ensure its program was rewarding and fulfilling by providing volunteers with training, uniforms, a travel allowance and a variety of social events throughout the year.
Last year, Perth Airport’s Gold Coat volunteers celebrated ten years of service to the Western Australian community and visitors at Perth Airport.
