7 ways to have yourself a merry little Christmas at Perth Airport
Christmas is always going to be the busiest time of year for travel. We see people flying home to their loved ones, or escaping and taking some well-earned holidays, or meeting and greeting their family and friends. Wherever you’re headed, we’ve put together some tips to help start your Christmas travel journey in the most festive of spirits at Perth Airport.
1. Save online
Online shopping at Christmas is a life-saver, don’t you agree? Right now, there’s 20% off store-wide at JR/Duty Free, which means more in your back pocket to put towards your travel funds. Simply order your duty-free shopping online, nominate your collection point and pick up your goodies on your way through to your gate.
You can also save up to 30% when you book your parking online, or through the Perth Airport app. Book in advance for the best deals, and guarantee yourself a parking bay so you won’t have to worry about circling for a spot.
We are expecting more than 2 million passengers to pass through our terminals this festive season. If you haven’t booked parking, make sure to leave yourself plenty of time to get to the airport and to find a bay. Remember to also check which of our four terminals your flight is departing from.
2. Get the App
Not only will the Perth Airport app allow you to get instant parking quotes and easily book your parking spot online, but it will also keep you up-to-date with your flight information, show you exclusive shopping and food offers, and pin your parking spot location for easy recall when you return from your trip. We don’t underestimate how handy that last one is.
3. Unload your excess
If you’ve packed your suitcase to the brim with all those extra Christmas goodies, chances are you might be pushing it depending on the baggage allowances for your airline. Don’t fret if you are over, there’s a cheaper solution than paying your airline’s excess baggage fees.
The Baggage Services kiosk at Smarte Carte (T1 International/Domestic) will deliver your excess luggage to your destination, and can save you up to 50% of the cost normally associated with excess baggage. They’re the crew that can also wrap your luggage for extra safety and security – especially useful this time of year when you’re carrying precious Christmas cargo.
4. Tick off your list
Given the time of year, it’s likely to have been a mad rush for you to even get to the airport, let alone to do your Christmas shopping. Instead of bracing busy shopping centres, use the few hours you have to kill before your flight by completing your Christmas shopping at the airport. We’ve got you covered with your honest Christmas shopping list here.
5. A Christmas feast
If you’re leaving family and friends behind this Christmas, why not enjoy one last meal together before you say goodbye. There are 22 food and beverage outlets across our terminals to choose from. You’ll be sure to find the perfect spot to wind down with good company before your flight. With menus perfect for grazing and sharing across The Crafty Swan Kitchen & Bar (their dining experience was designed by a Michelin-careered chef), Four Alls Brew House (try their wood-fired crust pizzas) and newcomer Loco Poco (Spanish tapas for the win) to name just a few, you’ll be in the festive spirit in no time. ‘Tis the season for sharing after all.
6. Win all the things
We’ve got a couple of competitions running that you’ll definitely want to enter. You can shop, eat and win your way to Europe with two economy class return tickets up for grabs, flying Singapore Airlines (T&Cs apply). Imagine if you’re the lucky winner - you’ll be able to escape those post-holiday blues by having your next one lined up and ready. If that’s not #travelgoals, we don’t know what is.
You can also win a brand-new BMW i8 when you spend $100 on liquor either online or in-store when you shop at JR/DutyFree (T&Cs apply). This dream car is on display at Terminal 1 International for you to lust over.
7. See the Christmas lights
We’ve got some golden (literally) decorations around the terminals and forecourts at Perth Airport this year. The kangaroos are always a crowd favourite. Share your snaps with us on Instagram using #perthairport.
If you’re travelling on the evening of Thursday, 21st December, we’ll be having a special visit from Santa as well as a choir performance, by the big boab at Terminal 1 International. We’ll also be rattling tins in support of Lights for Lifeline.
On behalf of all of us at Perth Airport, we wish you a very merry Christmas, wherever you may be celebrating in this big world of ours.
