ACCC rates Perth Airport Australia's best

26 April, 2018

Perth Airport has officially taken the mantle of Australia’s Best Major Airport in the latest report from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

The ACCC Airport Monitoring Report puts Perth Airport in top spot for overall service quality – the first time the airport has taken out the title as Australia’s best.

The findings show Perth Airport’s $1 billion redevelopment has been given a huge “thumbs up” by both airlines and passengers.

Since the completion of these projects, passenger and airline ratings of the airport’s quality of service have surged.

The ACCC report found:
  • Passenger and airline ratings of Perth Airport’s quality of service have now increased for five years in a row.
  • Perth Airport experienced the largest increase in airline ratings of quality of aeronautical service of any airport
  • Perth Airport experienced the largest increase in passenger ratings of quality of service of any airport.
The ACCC specifically noted that “Perth Airport’s significant improvement in quality of service ratings over the last three years has coincided with a substantial investment program.”

Perth Airport CEO Kevin Brown said the ACCC glowing endorsement of the airport was a great credit to Perth Airport’s team and that the report showed its investment program was paying off for both airlines and passengers.

“When we invest we want to deliver greater efficiencies for airlines and a better travelling experience for passengers,” Mr Brown said

“This report confirms we’ve really hit the mark. Passengers are enjoying a better customer experience while airlines are benefiting from both streamlined operations and happier passengers who want to travel more.

“These results show we’ve really changed the way the Western Australian public think about their airport. They’ve seen the results of a sensible investment plan and they like what they see.

“We now have plans to invest a further $2.5 billion in our next wave of development which will see a new runway, a major expansion of the international terminal and the move of Qantas services to the Airport Central Precinct.

“We’ll take the same approach of striving to deliver benefits for airlines and passengers as we move towards consolidation of all commercial air services in the Airport Central Precinct and become Australia’s Western Hub.”

The ACCC also reported that Perth Airport’s profit margin per passenger had only increased by around $1.50 per passenger over the past ten years and noted this “reflects the impact of Perth Airport’s investment program”.

The ACCC report confirmed that once again Perth Airport had the cheapest drive-up prices for short term car parking of any major airport and the lowest profit margin on car parking, noting that the margin had reduced in 2016/17.
