Aviation Support Precinct, T2 Apron Expansion and new Virgin Australia hangar
With regional passenger numbers continuing to surge, Perth Airport has started work on three key projects in the Airport Central precinct that will help cater for WA’s growing regional aviation sector. The projects include expanding the current Terminal 2 apron, building a new maintenance hangar for VARA – Virgin Australia Group’s regional and charter flying operation, and the development of a new Aviation Support Precinct to provide additional aviation support facilities for airport operators. Perth Airport has engaged local construction partners West Coast Civil and Perkins Builders to deliver these important projects for Western Australia.
Completed projects
International gate upgrade
In June 2021 Perth Airport completed the $36m project which replaced the stair boarding process at Gates 52, 53 and 54 with new ramps and lifts.
The upgrade delivers greater efficiency for our airline partners and a vastly improved boarding experience for passengers when international travel returns.
The project also replaced the single head aerobridges with dual head aerobridges which will facilitate faster turnaround times and an improved product for airlines operating from those gates.
Common User Self Service (CUSS)
The Common User Self Service (CUSS) Project was completed in 2020 which converted 16 existing check-in counters in Terminal 1 International into 36 self-service kiosks.
The impressive technology features passport readers and boarding pass/bag tag printing capabilities and 16 automated bag drops. The kiosks also have the capability of biometric reading.
To and from Perth Airport
The $2 billion State Government-funded Forrestfield-Airport Link is the transport solution to improve connections to and from Perth Airport, the eastern suburbs and regional centres.
The rail link connects the Midland line near Bayswater Station and runs to High Wycombe through underground tunnels, to ensure minimal impact on the existing land and road network.
The Airport Link improves public transport options to and from the airport and will help relieve pressure on existing roads.
Construction began in 2016 with the first trains running on the line in October 2022.
