Perth Airport's Terminal 3 ready to make history

24 March, 2018

Perth Airport’s Terminal 3 (T3) is ready to go for the historic first Qantas direct flight from Perth to London today.

Perth Airport CEO Kevin Brown says the finishing touches have been made after a huge logistical effort to convert Terminal 3 to a dual domestic-international operation.

“This really is a moment in history for Perth Airport and for Western Australia,” Mr Brown said.

“It’s incredibly important that we make a great first impression on visitors to our State and also give them a warm farewell when they leave.

“Teams have been working almost around the clock to ensure that today’s launch goes smoothly, and that we continue set a high standard for all international flights to and from bother our international terminals.

“Security systems have been tested and re-tested, shelves stocked in the Aelia duty free outlets, and, most importantly, the beers have been chilled in the Blackwood bar and bistro.

“I’m really proud of the work our team and our partners have done in making this happen in such a short space of time – and I’m sure Western Australians will be proud too.”

Mr Brown said the Perth-London direct service would enhance Perth Airport’s growing reputation as Australia’s Western Hub.

“Our ambition has been to make Perth a hub airport for travellers from our region and beyond,” Mr Brown said.

“Qantas has already signalled it will consider other direct services to Europe including Rome and Frankfurt.

“This comes at the same time as we are working with the State government to secure direct flights to Tokyo, Shanghai and India.

“And with major international airlines adding more than 230,000 seats to their Perth-Asia routes in the past six months, momentum is really building.

“The Perth-London direct service is a huge achievement but it’s only one part of an incredibly exciting story that’s unfolding for Western Australia and for Perth Airport.”

Background:

Perth Airport’s Terminal 3 will now be home to Australia’s newest international terminal which will host all Qantas international services, including the non-stop service to London.

To enable international services from the T3/T4 precinct, Perth Airport and Qantas have undertaken significant works to produce new and improved facilities, including a new international transit terminal which will provide Qantas customers a seamless and integrated travel experience.

The new integrated terminal will swing between domestic and international operations which provides flexibility and a seamless journey for passengers who are transiting from international to a regional destination.

The new international wing features a large outdoor deck with alfresco seating, a streamlined immigration and customs area to enable a faster transfer experience, additional food and beverage outlets, and a new Duty Free store.

As part of the works, unique dining concepts have also been developed which will contribute to the customer experience and provide passengers a last taste of Western Australia:

- Blackwood Beer & Wine- Gets its name from the Karri forest and Blackwood river regions in the South West and will focus on local food, wine and beer products
- Three bears- Inspired by a surfing break near Yallingup that breaks in 3 places Baby bear (small wave), Mama bear (medium wave) and Papa bear (out the back) the three bears are also reference to the offering Coffee/Food/Beer. This outlet can cater for both domestic and international passengers
