Perth Airport recognised globally for accessibility commitment
13 April, 2026
Perth Airport has been globally recognised for its commitment to accessibility, becoming the first Australian airport to receive accreditation under the Airports Council International’s (ACI) Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation Program.
The internationally recognised program formally acknowledges the accessibility foundations embedded across the airport’s planning, governance, and operations, while connecting Perth Airport to a global framework focused on collaboration, benchmarking, and continuous improvement.
Perth Airport CEO Jason Waters said our involvement in the ACI Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation Program provides formal recognition of the accessibility improvements our team have been delivering for years.
“Accessibility has been part of our organisational culture for many years and is embedded in its broader human-rights-aligned approach to infrastructure and service design.
“These frameworks guide decision-making to support equitable participation and advance the airport’s vision of delivering barrier-free journeys for all.
“This commitment has long been shaped by lived experience, with Perth Airport planning and operating alongside a highly engaged Access and Inclusion Advisory Group (AIAG) since 2015.
“Building on this foundation, the airport has recently strengthened internal capability by establishing a dedicated role focused on driving momentum and coordination toward barrier-free journeys.
“A second advisory group has also been formed to bring lived-experience expertise directly into the New Terminal program, ensuring design priorities remain grounded in community need.”
Through participation in the accreditation program, Perth Airport will continue contributing to sector-wide improvement - sharing insights, raising internal standards, and working collaboratively with industry partners to improve travel outcomes for people with disability and reduced mobility.
