Winter Night Market, Melbourne

When: 4 June to 27 August 2026  

See a different side to the Queen Victoria Markets as the historic sheds spring to life on Wednesday evenings between 5:00 and 10:00 PM. The atmosphere is buzzing, so take in a live performance, cosy up near a fire pit or warm your hands around a cup of mulled wine at the Winter Night Market in Melbourne. Eat your way around the food stalls as you hunt for bargains in the pop-up shops stocked with local handicrafts, clothes, skincare and more.

Melbourne International Film Festival

When: 6 to 23 August 2026  

A long-standing favourite on the international film scene and one of the most popular events on Melbourne’s cultural calendar, the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is world class! When: 12 June to 2 August 2026  

Take a friend and lose yourselves together in a spellbinding after-dark experience. Weave your way below, between and through enormous light installations and artworks amongst the stunning landscapes of Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens where the nightly sound exhibitions and multi-coloured lightshows are a visual feast. Make a pit stop at the food and warm drink stalls to fuel up and keep going! Tickets usually sell out fast at this multi-award-winning event, so book them online early.

Festivals and adventures further afield

When: 26 June to 12 July 2026  

Electric Wonderland lights up Bendigo, just under two hours from Melbourne. Rosalind Park is set to glow with an array of colourful interactive light installations, audio-mapping light projection shows and installations. This year, there’s a big vibe, literally, with a gigantic replica of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, an enormous magical snow globe, an underwater scene and huge immersive garden art.

East Gippsland Winter Festival

When: 19 June to 19 July 2026  

Head east this winter to enjoy East Gippsland’s crisp country air and a down-to-earth calendar of events with authentic cultural flair! Celebrate the winter solstice over an entire month, with seasonal feasts, medieval bonfire nights, live music and creative pop-up events. Island Whale Festival
